I dropped Matthew off at dads house at 8pm on Friday and headed for the captains meeting knowing full well that it could be a long night catching bait. After registering I got to the boat about 10, loaded all my stuff put out a bait light and headed out in search of mongos. Wow was I ever right about the long night. I thew the net until 3:30 Sat morning and finally gave up. I had 6 mongos, 12 or so money makers and 15 or so ales in the tank. It was strange the big bait was mixed with the small bait so every throw brought up 15 to 30 peanuts for me to shake out of the net. Dad and Matt got two the dock at 6:15 and we headed out. Fished below the mud most of the day. Put out a full buffet 4 moneys and 2 mongos on free line boards 1 money on a float and 2 ales on down lines. Not long into our second pull one of the mongos went down. We landed a 25 inch fish in a 12 inch shad. At least the skunk was off. Soon after another mongo was running for its life. After a few smacks the mongo was floating lifeless on the surface and the fish finally decided to eat it. This time a much better fish. 33.25 inch. An hour or so later another planer explosion. No playing this time all business. Managed to get the big fish on the tournament on board at 38 inches and 21lbs. Caught this fish at high noon. We landed 2 more small fish on mongos before 1pm. I had one more big fish on but lost him at the boat. May have been the tournament winning fish. We only finished 2nd by 1.25 inches. All fish caught on mongos. The other bait never even got chased. So it's now 1pm and we are out mongos. Went and searched for bait for around an hour with no luck. Headed for the check-in at 3 hoping to have a chance. Turns out we did great, finished second, got big fish, and Matt won the youth division. Thanks to the striper mafia for putting on another great tournament. Congratulations to sons of mafia for there win.

It didn't feel awesome when my clock went off at 5:45 but at least the bait was fresh. A little cool sleeping in the truck also.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person! Great job!
I haven't seen anything over 20 in two years. Gives one hope.
Just fantastic!

Thats my teacher there! Haha that is GREAT stuff. Ive never seen Jason give up either catching stripers or bait fish. We have put some hours in catching bait. If my wife knew you were sleeping in the truck she would have said your homeless! I say that is hardcore camping!
