I usually just go out on an end of point and anchor in 30 ft or so of water and put out a spotlight shining straight down. It sometimes takes 30 min or even an hour but most of the time its no problem to get them. EXCEPT with a lot of bright moon it can be be tough. On those nights I try to go either before the moon rises or after it sets if possible. I use a rechargeable LED spotlight but a regular old spotlight works just as good. A lot of times the bigger als we be around the edge of the glow of the light and the bigger ones are sometimes deep. Let the net go down deep but beware of the tree tops.
