had a couple old high school buddies uo for fri and sat fishing...easy ales at the dock light both thur and fri. night. Searched half heartedly for gizzard shad Fri AM but gave up after 10 throws and went with what we had. Not much to report. Caught 7 fish Friday but they were all small. 22-26''. Worked MC points most of the day and then fished a few BW creeks in the evening. Never marked much of anything and was disappointed in the day. Compared to Sat I should've been thrilled with 7 dinks. Went down to the dam mid Sat AM...fished all through the big water there and up into Cedar,....nuthin'. fished a bunch of the mountain side points....nuthin. Did have the pleasure of a bass boat jump me on 3 consecutive points....literally motoring by me with the largest wake he could make to get to the next point before me....I finally yelled to him and asked if he was going to keep jumping me on points...if so, I would go elsewhere. He looked at me like I spoke another language. Amazingly I don't think he had even a clue he was out of line...I went elsewhere.
Fished Bull Run from top to bottom...nuthin'. Decided to change it up and went to the top of gills where I caught nice fish 3 weeks ago...muddy and nuthin. Worked the 3 Islands as the evening approached and marked a few fish...and caught a dink. Decided the dink didn't qualify as a skunk remover.
Water temps ranged from 61 - 64. Blue skies on Sat probably didn't help...but it a beautiful day on the water. I ran the usual spread and a couple downlines...the few fish we caught came on all offerings...no preference it seemed.
The weekend was more about retelling the same stories we've been telling for 40 years...and toasting every one of them...but I was still bummed. I thought I had a strategy for a change and it turns out it was a lousy one.
