Was going to work but it rained a little last night, so I had to fish. Bait has been rough lately at my light. Mostly just a few per throw. Proably too warm. Got out just before 6. I bought a float at Captains last week. First time ive used these. So i had 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/4 oz on 15' under the float, and a free line. 4 rods. Before it was really light out,a white perch tried to strangle itself on the 6" gizzard on the float. While I was freeing it, the 1 oz went berzerk. Unfortunately, I felt a snap when I put some resistance on it. Broke right at the hook. 30 minutes later a 6.5 lber hit the float, and stayed on. A while after that the float went under again. But it was taken around a tree, I could tell the line was wrapped by the way it felt pulling in. I was trying to decide what my best option was, when the free line went balistic. So I put that back in the rod holder and reeled in a 10.5 lber on my smallest rod. That was worth a couple skunk days. Then i didnt care so much about the treed fish, I just pulled and snapped the line. Dumped bait and rowed home around 8:00. So light/free lines win. Not what I'd expect this time of year, but at the least, it pays to have a variety out there.

The lightlines worked for me a lot longer than I'd expect this year - of course the upper water layers are a little cooler this year. Didn't get any action on them the last week though we didn't run them as much as the wind and quick turns of the boat trying to stay on the schools made them tough to run.
Nice report and glad you got hooked up with a fun fight.
