Greetings, Me and a buddy hit Leesville for a few hours. In one of the coves I spotted a 2 foot striper near the surface. I wanted to be sure so We turned the boat and were close enough for my buddy to have the striper partially in the net before he swam off. I thought he may have been injured but he took off quick.Does this sound normal?

I'd say that fish recognized your boat and decided to just give up. :)That's rare in these parts.

I wanted to be sure so We turned the boat and were close enough for my buddy to have the striper partially in the net before he swam off. I thought he may have been injured but he took off quick.Does this sound normal? This reminded me of one I encountered last summer of fall. I was netting some bait and noticed what I thought was a fish off a ways from the boat. I slid over there with the trolling motor and sure enough, it was a striper, just sort of barely swimming with its head right at the surface, gasping for "air". I bumped it with the net to see if it would swim on off - it scooted away then popped back up. I netted it to see if there was anything obviously wrong with the fish - when I lipped it out of the net it fought like a freshly caught juvenile striper with no obvious external signs of injury or sickness, other than being a little thin. Released it back and it swam off, only to pop back up again a few dozen yards away. My guess is it was a fish that had been caught and overly stressed - I don't expect that fish made it, but who knows......
