I've got a request from a group coming in to the area mid-May for a good caterer in the area that could specialize in BBQ - I assume he actually means BBQ vs. grilling up burgers and such....
I believe there is a place over in Moneta town center, but I can't recall the name. Anyone know this place, or any others that you'd recommend?
thanks!

I'm not sure but it would be a good idea for you or Bigun (cause he has mward money) to go ahead and book their service in the next couple weeks out on Indian point. Go ahead and do it for about 40 folks so you'll know they can handle a good size party when you recommend them to friends. Let us know and we will be happy to come be the taste testers so it will not be wasted. I'll bring my own water. ;D

Smokehouse is the place in Moneta. It's pretty good and I know they have a catering business also. Jetski girl made me eat there 4 out of 5 days one time and I still enjoyed it. Very good BBQ and coleslaw.

You talking strictly SML area? I know Bernards Landing does a bit of catering with the Brunos Gastro Pub stuff. Probably set you back a few thousand, but you are Mward. Not sure of many other BBQ type catering places around the lake off hand. Roanoke would certainly have a few more options.

Well, This ain't Mward's money (and if you guys really know how little Mward money was worth.... ) The event would be somewhere near or at the lake - this is for the Freedom Alliance group that is coming down again mid-May and the coordinator was looking for some recommendations for a caterer for BBQ that could do something on the evening they all arrive.... Brunos Gastro Pub may be a little high-end like you said..... I'm not quite sure where they want to host this - they will be staying at the Westlake Waterfront this year - but as long as folks are willing to come towards the lake then they could possibly be an option.

Gotcha. If Smokehouse doesn't work, I'd just google Roanoke BBQ catering and you should get a bunch of places. I would think they would come out to the lake..sure that's not a huge issue.

Bastins I think the spelling is somewhere close, and Bad Wolfe in Roanoke do catering last time I had them they were OK.

Don't know if they cater, but the best BBQ I've had, bar none (including Texas and Tenn) is the little stand on the corner of Burnt Chimney and Brooks Mills Rd. Best NC BBQ I've ever had. During the winter they only sold BBQ pulled pork, but I believe they expand their repertoire from mid April on to ribs, etc (call 24 hours in advance). It ain't cheap but I think BBQ fans will be happy.

I would recommend Pigs R Us out of Martinsville but now I gotta try the Burnt Chimney Brooks Mill BBQ. Is that at the store that used to be *bleep*'s or may still be?

It's a "cart" that is out in front of the old store that at one point recently was a used-goods swap-shop, and has a old sign with a bass on it - or used to (can't remember the name that was on it - on the south side of the intersection, with the dumpsters on the other corner. They have been putting a new red metal roof on it over the winter - not sure if those guys are going to move in with an eat-in restaurant or not....
