Air Temp 45, Water Temp 44
Got to the lake Wednesday evening. Got the boat rigged up and splashed with just about hour left to hunt some bait. With a good tip from the FB SML Striper page we headed to a BW creek. Bait was holding 10-20’ in 25-28’ of water. Ended up with a couple dozen for the the next morning.
12/29- Air 28°- 60° Water 44-47°
Set: free planer boards, light 3/8-1/2oz weight planer boards, down rods.
Started out heading up the BW and fishing a creek. Had several chases and pull backs but no fish really committing. Got over a small school around 9:30 and put the first striper in the boat off a down rod. 28”. Had another hit but missed the hook up. Made a move to another BW creek with no love at all. Didn’t stay there long. Headed to check another creek before heading in for lunch. Not long after we started pulling we hit a double. 33” and 27”. Made a couple circles in the area and had a couple more hits but no takers. Headed in for lunch.
Evening: Headed out for a quick evening trip with about an hour and half before dark decided to head up the RR and hit some main channel areas. Not too long into the pull we had a light weight planner board get crushed. While reeling in that 34” striper we had a down rod get hammered as well. Doubled up again with another 27.5”. After some sunset pics packed it up and called it a day. 5 fish landed and several missed hook sets.
12/30 Air 31°-60° Water 45-47°
Set: free Boards, Light boards, Down rods.
Set out to a BW creek. Stared pulling the shallows with no love at all. Moved out to deeper water and picked up a 27” on a LL planer. Keep pulling out to deeper water. Had a big bait get smashed and momma hooked up on a 35” fatty!!! As she was fighting that one another rod with a big bait get crushed and Deuce grabs the rod. I net mommas and Deuce fights his fish for a long while before it came unbuttoned close to the boat. Ended up hooking a couple more on the morning that came unbuttoned. Called it a day at 11:30am.
Ended the day and half boating 7 and missing almost as many. I saw that most of our hits and hook ups where on weighted lines. We used all gizzard Shad ranging from 4” on downlines to 11” on boards. They seemed to be chewing on all size bait. Prefect time on the water with family. We also have a pup that loves the boat.
