Advice from a guy who literally hates catching bait, thus the reason I don’t live bait fish for stripers very often but when I do I buy jumbo minnows, they’ve always worked pretty good for me, may not catch as many as the shad will but believe me they do work. I’ve caught citations before on them….. best part is don’t get soaking wet throwing a net for hours.

If you have access to a creek, seining or trapping shiners, chubs, and suckers will also provide good bait. Have caught many a striper on 6-10” chubs and suckers.
