When folks started shaming people for catching fish, (which is what this site is all about) I knew it would be the beginning of the end.

No kidding. I look at these boards twice a day hoping to see a new report or thread. Definitely gotten quiet. I’ve only been to the lake twice, and canceled more than that due to weather. Hope it picks up soon. Was supposed to be there this past weekend, weather pushed me away, so I hope to reschedule and get back up there.

bone, check your PM..... I'm as guilty as the rest. I quit posting reports. Someone always has something negative to say when you are catching fish. To hot, to big, to small, to many, bragging, feeding there ego etc. etc. I've never posted a report to brag. Always left a clue or two in each report.

Hunting season is mostly over now. Might catch a fish or two soon, gotta notch my February fish at least. Got some new rods coming this week too, so they must be used.
I think more people think about fishing rather than actually fishing. And the ones actually fishing and catching don’t exactly need advice, so not much reason to stop by.

I think these style of fishing forums are dying a slow death due to Facebook and the like. The information is still being exchanged, people are just using a different source to do so. When I got hardcore into striper fishing, this site and similar forum based sites were really the only places to learn - now there is all types of social media to learn from - FB, YouTube, etc. Not really sure what we can do at this point to change that - I’ve made attempts in the past to direct FB traffic to this site, but never really had much luck. The only thing you can do if you’re still a regular here is contribute when able and hope others do the same. There’s also a large history of information here that is probably second to none for SML stripers.
If somebody could get mward to quit building rods and go fishing, he would get a good report posted! I try to post when I go fishing, but that is only about 6 times a year these days (for now anyways).

There are times I tend to agree w/ Tyler. Then, every once in a while, you get an infusion of fresh blood/ideas and things begin to trend back in a positive direction. Really kinda up to those of us who continue to hang out here, yes? We have to be enablers to collaboration and sharing. That said . . .
Ol' Airborne has enjoyed staying warm and dry but those days are coming to an end real soon. My first event is on 26 FEB (Kerr). Dunno that would bust on Mr Ward too hard. He's been crankin' out some unbelievable sticks.

If it not would be minus 40 F every weekend lately then maybe I’d make it out…. At least one weekend will happen in March if the Lord is willing & the creek don’t rise

This site was a major factor in my learning how to fish for stripers. I was motivated to work hard and couldn't wait to share the results of my hard work with this group. I always felt that I needed to give as much to this forum as it gave to me. This is still somewhat true. There are several reasons why I stopped posting: - I don't have much new material to give.
- I really have no desire to take any public information from others because I would rather figure out the day-to-day conditions of the lake by myself.
- Mongos have become VERY hard to find. When I finally figure out where they are hiding, the last thing I am going to do is tell anyone else.
- I now enjoy going to the lake without being known by every boat that passes by. Bigun.. you warned me about this, I'm just listening to your sage advice!
- My videos are no longer interesting and entertaining to me.
- I haven't caught a 30 pounder!
Forgive me if I sound selfish. I will forever be grateful to this forum. And, I don't know what the future brings. But I am pretty sure that StripedYam no longer exists. But man...that was a BLAST! Mucho Respect! Yam

Bigun.. you warned me about this, I'm just listening to your sage advice! Yam, you should know better than to listen to me. Good to hear from you. Hope you and yours are doing well in this crazy world we live in. I echo your reasons for not posting much anymore... (except for the mongos) (it's not the size of the pencil, it's how you sign your name) and you are right, it has been a blast. Lots of really good fishermen on here that are really good people. Guess it's just time to move on. oh, I'm pretty sure I caught your 30lber this past year. to all the naysayers about the fishery. Still lots of fish in the lake. yea, I deleted the last part Tight Lines

Good to see some dialog. Wish I could contribute but major life changes have kept me away from the water, namely a shitty divorce and the loss of my camper at Mitchells. What I wish I knew then that I know now. I do try to help others with what little Ive gleaned over the years via PM. I will restate what Ive said before when I was a "newbie" in these parts. I do get being somewhat selfish as there are a number of folks that simply take more then they give. I always found a number of posts to be helpful but almost mockery in a sense. If you werent in the know or the cool kids club, good luck! Oh by the way heres a few pictures of citations we keep catching. Hopefully we see a resurgence in the coming year(s) . I know Im itching to tighten my lines again.

I found this site back in 2016. I am glad I found it at that time. I am very grateful for all those who helped me get started in striper fishing at SML. Shadslinger, camoboatguy, crmiller, MWard, Yam, Bentrod, johnr, KB, LIvebaitlunkee, and many others all helped me get started with good advice. Not just telling me where the fish are. It lead to making some great friendships that are good today. I will say I kind of saw a shift in how people starting asking for information too as in wanting it all now and not paying any dues. Not even hitting the search bar and trying to find information for there self. That was my biggest pet peeve. I had a tough start trying to learn the bait and the lake but I wouldn't change that. It made for even more excitement when you hooked up. I think now I have made a network of anglers/friends that we give each other info and help each other out so I see us not posting here as much. Maybe that's not right but I kind of want those guys to get my info and put them on fish if I can. No one asks about set ups, rigging and tactics anymore. That's where I don't mind helping. People don't seem to want to build the relationship anymore they just want to know where the fish is now and if you don't help them then the heck with ya. I also haven't fished as much either due to travel baseball, 2 kids now, and so on and so on. I will try to post more on here. Would be cool to see this site hopping again.

That did make me LOL. Folks just take things to seriously now days. If you got up this morning, be thankful. If you and your family are healthy, be thankful. In the grand scheme of things, a lot of things we fret about, don't really amount to much. Learn to enjoy the journey. Whether it be life or fishing. Life is to short to worry about things we can't control.

It sure is good to see people putting something on here, I didn’t fish but one time this winter and couldn’t even catch shad throwed the tape net for hours but water temp had came up after a week of warm weather! I wish I would have just jigged but hadn’t done that in years. We used to do really well after it was to cold to mess with catching shad I reckon I just got stuck in a rut after getting older and not wanting to fish after it gets so cold! But look on the bright side it’s supposed to be 60 degrees Saturday first trip of the year! I try to help people out all the time mostly by pm on here so I hope others do the same we have always fished alone on the lake and struggle at times that’s for sure but we catch a few too so good luck everyone and tight lines.

It's been months or even a year or more since I have checked this site. It's nice to see that many of the same folks that drew me to this forum are still around. I think Tyler is correct in that there are too many other platforms available and forums like this are slowly dying. I'd post but you guys could care less about a snook report or speckled perch report in Florida. Heading out speck fishing this morning. Peace!!
