I’m in the market for a new tape net for this winter fishing season. I currently have: 10’ 5/8 tape net 1lb/per ft 10’ 5/8 non tape with 1.5lb/per ft
My tape net has seen better days and is needing more repairs every time I throw it seems like. Does anyone have experience with a 1.5lb per ft VS 1lb per ft tape net specifically. My concern with the 1.5lb is it will obviously fall faster but will that result in a smaller radius in deeper water as opposed to the 1lb.
I can throw my 1lb taped like a champ and it stays open but is more weight better with a tape net?

I’ve got an 8 ft 5/8” mesh taped with 1.15 lb/ft. It has produced very well. Marked bait at Claytor from 40’-50’ on the bottom and loaded the net with way too many blue backs. More than I could pick up. So it’s proved itself for me to believe. I do think the bigger mesh helps to keep them open, but I also think you’re thinking correctly about it being a smaller radius at its final destination, especially the deeper throws. Heavier weight creating a faster balloon.

Looks like I may end up with a twin to my 10ft 5/8” 1lb taped. It’s done very well for me and pretty easy to throw which I think is the biggest factor in me liking it so much. My 10’ 5/8” 1.5lb non taped hurts to throw more than a handful of times but that’s “usually” all that it takes with that monster. Thanks for the feedback man, I’ll probably go ahead and get that net on the way. Hopefully if I can keep this one out of the trees this year, next fall I’ll try the 1.5 taped version and will share my experience with it.

I have both a 1.5lb and 1lb Fitec both in 5/8" mesh and 10' radius. I like the 1.5lb net in the fall and early spring when the bait is 18-25' but is still pretty active. It does fall and close faster but I think That helps when the bait is still fast and active. If the bait is holding below 25' and the water is cold and the bait is not as active I like the 1lb net. It will stay open deeper for sure and will get that deeper slower bait. The 1lb net does take a while to get down for sure just have to be patient and make sure to let it get all the way down.

That’a exactly the info I was hoping for, guess I’ll be ordering both. Nothing more frustrating than not having the right tool for the job. Thanks man! Good thing about that 1lb taped, I have time to take a picture before it hits the bottom.
