Had a lite schedule at work so I snuck away for a few hours of relaxation and recreation. I fully expected work to sneak up on me so I stayed fairly close to the state park, just in case i got one of those 911 calls. I did. I am so ready to retire . . .
Put in around 7:30 and saw 56.5 at the state park. Water had a slight stain (maybe 3' of viz). I motored across the lake to opposite shoreline and worked a series of main lake cuts and coves. Targeted offshore stuff initially. SML didn't disappoint. Had a couple of short keepers on a DT-10 in the first 10 mins or so. As I was working my way around a secondary point I heard schoolers breaking off to one side. I threw my trusty 2.75" swimbait in that general direction, let it sink a few seconds, then started a slow retrieve. Two cranks into the retrieve my rod loaded up. A chunky, feisty 20" LM. That school made the mistake of staying put. I managed three more out of it before they broke up. All of the fish about the same size. From there I bounced around some history, hitting main lake and secondary points, transition lanes, and a few of my fav docks. DT-10, c-rig, jig, fluke, and swimbait drew strikes. No more big ones but did have a few solid keeps mixed in.
Observations: 1) WTs ranged from 56.5 to 58.4. Clarity was ~the same everywhere I went. A few spots cleaner, a few dirtier. 2) Marked some bait but nothing I could pattern. 3) the schoolers were active in a number of places. They were pushing bait up against offshore structure and long, tapered points. Stripers and LM mixed in. 3) Thought the wind would help the spinnerbait bite. Nope. Not a sniff for me today. 4) 4-8' was the magic zone for me today. 5) Water was up (compared to the last trip I made). Riprap at the state park was almost all submerged.
Lake was busy. No rec boats just lots of fishermen. Apologize for the lack of detail - blame work.
peace,
B
