Guys, I am headed down tomorrow for 3 days of striper fishing. I have been coming down for a few years and have always done well up around Beaver Creek. From what I have heard, the fishing is a little tough right now.
Does anyone know what the Beaver Creek area is like right now?
Just out of curiousity, what is the best time of year for striper fishing at SML?

The best days are the ones on which I have to work.

The Striper fishing is pretty solid year round. Like anything, you'll have some good days and bad days, but we don't get periods of bad much. The fishing right now is not bad at all. Beaverdam would be a good place to start. May also check Moormans area and most of the upper lake creeks. Water temps are on the rise. Good luck.

It's starting to clear up with the sunny days. Still got some color to it though.

Grimes was still pretty muddy this weekend. Worse than some of the creeks around the bridge area or the channel itself. Hopefully the on-going rain in the forecast will not make it worse....

I wouldn't let a little stained water bother you too much anyway. I have had some really good days even when fishing in muddy waters.

I told you guys I would give you an update, so here it is................the fishing was slow
Thursday, day one. We hit Campers Paradise first thing, I picked up a 29" striper on the 5th cast. Unfortunately that was the only fish we caught that day. We fished Campers, Beaver, 65, and Becky and Bettys coves.
Friday, day two. We picked up one 23" striper in Beaver creek along with several largemouth. Today we hit Beaver, 65, Campers Paradise, and the bridge.
Saturday, day 3. We lost one striper in Indiana and caught several Largemouth. We hit Beaver, Campers Paradise, Indiana, Grimes, and Bettys Cove.
THis was the worst trip we have ever had to SML. It didnt seem like the striper guides were lighting it up either, so it wasnt just us.
We are gonna try to get back down there this fall to give it a try.
Thanks for the Info

Tough going PSUHunter - this warm/cold/warm/cold weather we keep having has made it tough - seems we are a good couple of weeks behind normal for water temps. And they are calling for snow on Saturday night

Don't feel bad PSU, I fished Sat afternoon til about 530pm and didn't catch anything either. The wind was blowing 900mph. Caught some good fish last week and even Friday, but Saturday afternoon was tough. The best bite seems to be in the evenings from 4-8pm I've found. And sounds like even after darks been real good. The first hour or two of daylight has been ok too. Midday has been slow.

thanks for the update. we are planning on hitting the lake a little prior to light, so we can catch some bait, and then fishing saturday thru tuesday. we'll be in a 21' CC Hydrasport, 4 of us, draggin bait and throwing bucktails, etc. Looking at the weather forecast, a hot thermos of coffee might be in order vs the colder beverages!! We'll be staying up from the bridge on the water. Glad I didnt put away the ice fishing clothes.
