Working on a set of 6 rods live bait Striper trolling rods destined for PA - he chose the red, white & blue camo grips and red for the reel seat - I added a bit of additional flair to the grips - will be hitting the wrapping bench for the guides and decorative trim before the end of the weekend

Getting there with this set... first one of six is basically done other than an final coat of finish on the decorative wrap. Spiral / Acid wrapped 8’ fiberglass, 15-25 LB test, Moderate-Fast action, Medium power (saltwater rating, so more like MH or maybe almost H for freshwater rods). Custom EVA grips, “tiger” decorative wrap, aluminum reel seat with double locking nuts, rubber gimbal butt, double footed Fuji guides all with under wraps.

Those are beautiful! Nice job man! I’d almost feel bad getting them covered in slime.

Mike, rods look great. Quick question. The line guides seem to wrap 180 degrees around the rod so they end up being like a spinning rod at the far end. I’ve never seen that before. What is the advantage of that? Or am I completely off on what I’m seeing.

What is the advantage of that? Or am I completely off on what I’m seeing. You’re drunk.... or maybe I was 😂 Seriously, it’s called a “spiral” or “acid” wrap. The benefit is it counters the rod torque that comes from the lines pulling on the guides causing the rod to try and twist in your hand. By quickly getting the line to the underside of the rod this torque is removed. It also has no material impact to casting distance on rods used for casting. Here is a quick video demo of what happens (not me )
