I heard yesterday, that a new manager was hired last week for the Brookneal Hatchery.
This is great news! Last years we came close to not getting our yearly stocking. Given that there is a new manager, he should have enough time to get organized and shock up stripers in April so we get stocked again this year.

As usual I am day late. But it is still good news. Have you ever been at Brookneal when the stripers go into their full spawn? It is amazing. The Staunton River just comes alive. It just boils with activity. One night I was on the water in a small Coleman plastic boat. It was like a National Geographic Special. They were balancing off the sides of the boat. It lasted for hours. It was once in a life time experience. Someday I would like to see it again.

Hey striperseeker, its not a once in a life time thing. If you are on the river in a flat deep section on any night at the right time of the year you're in for a show. And if u cast rebels at that time u might get lucky an catch one of them little bucks trying to knock the rebel out the way. But yes it does look like something off TV for those who aren't lucky or don't have the time to be on the river all the time.

No program. I was at the right spot at the right time. I would love to do it again. I think I need to get a small river boat and fish Brookneal in the spring again.

When the dog woods bloom stripers are in the river. But I always do a lot of white bass fishing (mmmm mmmm good). But any way I always start picking up a few stripers while doing that, then its on.
