So, my only fishing experience fishing in WV was 2008. We had our FoM regional on the Kanawha River. I fished (hard) for 4 days and caught one (1) 8" bass. No other bites. Based on this experience I conclude there are very few fish in WV. Using a 3' cast net saves the thrower wear-n-tear on his/her upper body casting and retrieving what will ultimately be an empty net. While the 12' net will increase the thrower's probability of landing a fish I question whether the wear-n-tear aspect makes doing this worth it in the long run. Just sayin' . . .

That's is what I remember. Maryland allows no castnets in freshwater areas! At least they used to, may have changed now

3’ net has been the law for as long as I can remember. When I was heavy into musky fishing a 3’ net worked great for catching suckers is shallow water in small creeks. Just wade alone until you see one and throw the little net over him.
My guess in the catfisherman who fish the Ohio and Kanawah rivers are trying to get the law changed so they can better catch shad.

I was surprised - but mainly because I was thinking about Boone lake - and thinking Boone Lake is in WV for some reason. Might as wel be a WV “home lake” I guess
