I wanted to share some info regarding a proposed campground that is being planned and seeking a zoning ordinance exception adjacent to Magnum Point Marina, and to be run/operated by Magnum Point. For those of you who have not been by Magnum Point Marina in recent months, you really should go and see what John M and the team there are doing to revitalize the marina. I am confident that anything he puts in place at the property will be 1st rate and run with class.
There currently are not any short-term campground facilities in Franklin County, and the only one I'm aware of around SML is the State Park - there are several seasonal campgrounds of course, but very limited options for families that want to come for a weekend and enjoy the lake. For many familes this is how they are introduced to SML - they come for a weekend and stay a life-time. It also creates an affordable option for families vs. more expensive week-long housing rentals.
Understandably, some neighbors immediately next to the Marina have concerns and opposition to this proposed development - much stems I'm sure from not knowing what specifically is planned or how it will play out in reality. John has been very open and invited anyone to come and take a look at the plans and discuss any concerns with him - and there have been changes to the plan already made based on feedback from the surrounding neighbors.
In order to show the support within the community for this campground, John has created a Change.org petition to enable those to show support for this proposed facility. Take a few moments to check out the details of what is being planned and if you support this, do them a favor and "sign" this petition
