I'm a beginner at striper fishing. I am going to buy some planer boards and I'm looking for recomendations. I;ve looked at multiple ads and of course each manufacturer makes the best. What boards do you all use? What size ? I will be on lakes and rivers, no off shore for me. Also, how well do the boards handle umbrella rigs?
If anyone has any boards they want to sell please let me know.

Not aware of anyone pulling u-rigs on planer boards - at least not the lightweight, in-line boards that most of us use on SML. I can't imagine them working due to the drag, and then depth control would be challenging, and given all the timber it seems you'd be hung up all the time. Perhaps you could pull some A-Rigs behind the boards we use.

Was looking at planer board designs last night it showed some one using a-rigs behind a planer board, was a three board rig and they ran three a-rigs off of them. Was a really large board said they could do 100' spreads off both sides with them. They used cable with releases off the main line so you could fight just the fish and not the whole board.

Sounds like the big-boy planers that they use out on the Great Lakes or the trolling ships use at the bay - big, long, wooden boards tethered to a dedicated "reel", with the lines for the individual lures/baits held via release clips like ou said.... |

If you mean boat winch. Like mward said you are probably thinking of the large wooden ones they use in the salt. I dont know of anyone using them here on the lake. Not that it cant be done just normally overkill and could become problematic if you are running a wide spread in some narrow areas' of the lake. If you want to pull multiple U-rigs you can run a spread at different depths and distance from the back of the boat. |

Sometimes at work its kinda slow and I find things to make the night go by, I'll type in something and then look at the postings about it. That's how I found those videos, on the lake with a spread like they were using, a lot of people would be cussing and giving the one finger salute, and I bet some one would go through it with a boat.
