Finally got some time to try the perch bite! Had a home-made sadeki rig on an ultra-lite spinning rod and some night-crawlers. Started out about 6am working my way south from the boardwalk and state park area just crusing coves in 25 to 15 ft water watching the graph. Found a large school, dropped the night-crawler tipped rig over and nothing.... Gave it 3 minutes and decided it was shad. Continued working my way south. Then at about 9am found another school in 14 ft water around Gross Point (straight across the channel from goat island). Dropped the rig in and immediately had a double! Nice size, about 10/11 inches each. Hit the anchor lock on the trolling motor and proceeded to have a ball! Several triples and doubles made that ultra lite sing!!! Boated 50 in an hour and 20 minutes. 47 made the 8" cut off for the Perch Jerk tourney... the 3 others made my wife's cats very happy.
Get out there and Perch Jerk and take some kids! I've got a couple of kids in the neighborhood I'm going to see if I can get them out there!
