because i never heard of it before as in relation to fishing a tournament. i understand the reasoning for it, as discussed above about the possibility of one person turning in a fish someone else caught. it wasnt drop dead hilarious, but it made me chuckle a bit.

Several (a few?) people in recent years have lost out on money in that and other tournaments at the lake because of the lie detector.

they are done quite often in tournaments with larger purses. Even at the level of our Striper Mafia events we conduct them - just another way to try and ensure the integrity of the event - sad that we have to do them, but is what it is.

The year I placed, they picked 1-2 people from each species to test. It takes a little while, but I'm all for it. There was a guy that placed first in the Oakley big bass tourney a few years ago, and failed. The rules are there and meant to be followed, so if that's what it takes, then that's what it takes. Especially when there's a $35K bass boat on the line.

If won a couple hundred dollars and lost it for a false reading I would be hot!

might have to have people volunteer to start being marshalls like in BassMasters...if someone who was fair and honest gets a false reading on a lie detector test and loses out on what they shouldve rightfully won, that really has to suck...

So I have been thinking about doing this for a few years since it is relatively cheap and lets you fish for a few days. Thought it would be fun to striper fish during the day and try and catch a big ole catfish at night. I went ahead and bought a few tickets.
What have I gotten myself into? Reading some old posts sounds like its a zoo out there?

I'd not say its a zoo by any means..... you do need to be careful fishing at night - regardless of the tourney or not.... there was an unfortunate accident a few years ago when there was a collision which resulted in a death at dusk or just after - sad mark on the tourney. It's a fun time - like you say, you can mix it up with striper in the day, catfish at night or other species..... maybe someone will finally get the elusive muskie (or did they remove that this year to shift some money around?)
