Will you be ready to moisten that thing by the weekend? If i could stay in town, maybe.... out in CA this week..... so no, will still be in construciton mode this weekend. It has been leak-tested however.... (before the outer wall and insulation was put in), so technically she's gotten wet - just not slimy

Finally back home from biz travel so time to make some progress on the tank (in between getting things ready for the tourney next weekend). I have been looking at “horizontal” filter setups like on the Creek Bank & Mel’s - wasn’t sure about them but a benefit of that style is that you don’t have to run the tank “full” and with this huge tank that could be a benefit. However, with this setup I don’t have a place for a wide rectangular filter box. After I got my head a-round it, and stopped going in circles, I came up with an idea for a twist on the horizontal filter. The water will come up into the center chamber and then filter outwards and drain out into the return chamber of the tank. After I got my head a-round it, and stopped going in circles, I came up with an idea for a twist on a filter variation. I have a ton of filter surface area with this setup - almost 1100 sq-in of total area Slime catching later - 229 sq-in Layer 1 - 365 sq-in Layer 2 - 501 sq-in I’ll be using a different material than shown - it’s just what was laying in the garage at the moment. I’ll likely fill the center slime chamber with Ehfifix and perhaps even ditch the black screen as the Ehfifix is so efficient at catching slime. May have to add a center band to the columns to help hold the filter material in as it clogs up, but we’ll see. I’ll have a SBT-style as my backup but you don’t learn if you don’t try something new along the way.

Old School “SBT Style” vs New School Will be interesting to see which performs better....

It’s crunch time - the tank has to “sail” early Wednesday AM.... I may be sitting in the back of the boat wiring it while we are driving down the road..... But she’s looking good..... Not all things can be done in the CNC - had to hand-drill these return grates with a Kreig pocket-jig, but had to tweak it a bit to get more angle out of it The false floor in the tank to accommodate the drains, O2 stone and returns was a TON of work and caused all kinds of problems.... but it’s done Filter “boxes” ?? plumbed - had to sand down the PVC a bit so the filter boxes and scale catcher will easily come out And of course she has to have a pretty top.... have a place for a gasket but as tight as the top is currently fitting I’m not sure it’s going to be necessary.... Once the sealant sets that holds the standpipe I’ll get the pumps plumbed in and wired up and get some water in it.....

With the false floor drains, this may be the best tank design I’ve ever seen. The biggest flaw of your “standard” tank is the filter intake - some of the newer tanks with a false floor or center intake are starting to solve that issue. Excited to see this in action.
