I’m making a bait cage for the hell of it. Probably won’t work but it’s fun to piddle around with.
Anybody have suggestions on mesh to use?

Hardware cloth, 1/4”. Stainless of course and the heavier gauge the better. Otters are tough to keep out.

I made one after I saw a picture of the cool one made by JohnR with his help on the size to make. I ordered the 1/4" vinyl coated hardware cloth 23 gauge off of ebay. my only issue is keeping the bait alive in it for any extended period of time..... I am having a lot of dead loss. I don't know if it is keeping to many at a time in it or water temp or depth at which I keep the cage or what. I have it sitting on the bottom under my dock in Penhook in about 10-12 ft of water. The water stays pretty clear on this end of the lake. The larger mongos seem to have lasted a little longer than dollar bills. Anyone have thoughts on this? Any help or suggestions is much appreciated. thanks!
