Fall has started and the water is getting colder. I was wondering that when do you fish most often in the year round.

I fish year 'round. Boat is never winterized. In fact, I spend most of my time on the water late fall into early spring. In many places lakes are drawn down during the winter. That gives me an opportunity to study exposed structure and cover. The absence of rec boat traffic allows me to linger in place to study, take notes. Every once in a while I even catch a fish.

That's cool. So what's your late fall fishing bait? I often use topwater lures (and my favorite one is the popping frog) in summer time, but it seems that they don't work well when everything is getting cold.

Once water temps hit 55 and below I'm throwing crankbaits, blades/spoons, and jigs. Dropshot, jerkbaits, and damiki rig come into play once water temps hit 45.

I fish year round. To be more exact I've fished every weekend since the beginning of Sept. Gonna take a little break then get ready for winter jigging.

I usually fish a solid 3 days per week averaged from February till August. Some of these trips are only a few hours after work or before the heat sets in on the weekends, but they’re fishing trips on a boat nonetheless. I split these trips pretty evenly between SML and Philpott. We also go to the rivers near the house a couple evenings per week when the weather is nice in late spring and summer.
I probably don’t fish 10 times from late August thru January most years. Too busy hunting 2-3 days a week during that timeframe.
I love to fish but I love to hunt more.
