While reading another post, I realized that several folks don't have a lot of room to store a hard plastic slime off tub. My self included. When I first started bait fishing I looked for an alternative... a flexible tub that can be folded up fairly small for storage. I found one at Wal-Mart and after using it for two years I have been happy with the results. They are called Tubtrugs. It has started to crack a half inch or so in a couple of places around the rim. But I feel sure ill get another year out of it. I have looked at Wally world since the purchase and have not been able to find them there anymore. But you can find them online, I have black in color now and would suggest a lighter color. I will get a light blue for my next one. I believe I paid around ten or twelve dollars for mine. Thought this suggestion might help someone. Oh, and they work well for filling your bait tank with water.

Yup - I have a yellow one I have been using for about a year now and absolutely love it.
FYI - when you try to fill it up by dipping it in the lake hold onto both handles in one hand. If you want a quick laugh, watch everyone else try to do it by holding one handle at a time or laying flat on the deck with one handle in each hand ;-)

I purchased one of the Tubtrugs today from Amazon. It is 10 gallons and was $10.99 with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime.
There are many colors and sizes but anything other than black and the price increased by 2.5 times. Black it is.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I hope you guys like them. I transferred 45 baits to my home tank from my boat earlier today. Took about 4 or 5 trips as not to damage the baits.

I had a semi-flexible bucket once but it was still plastic based and more a pain to get in my main hatch - this looks a lot more flexible.
I like the wider / shallower version they have but it would require filling it via a different bucket I think and of course take more floor space (but would be easier to hit with the net when dumping bait in).
On the color - the downside or the black is it can be very hard to see the baits in a black tank/bucket when you are trying to net them out - especially at night....

A little off topic, but how long does slime-off take? Is it different for ales than gizzards? THanks

A little off topic, but how long does slime-off take? Is it different for ales than gizzards? THanks I've never really noticed Ales to slime off - I think its more used with them for purposes of culling out the better/bigger baits (or baits of a target size). Of course the less you can handle the baits - especially ales with their fragile scales, the better so sometimes you're best off just going straight to the tank. As to how long for gizzards to slime - when Ive done it - which has not been often thus far - I usually leave them in the bucket for 5-10 min personally then transfer

Same here - about 10 minutes tops and I as Mike alluded to, for Ales it is usually more for sorting out the too small and too damaged baits before putting the good baits into the main tank.

Mike -
I have the Extra large tubtrug from your chart. I like it as it is a large mouth which makes it easier to dump a net full into without splashing so many on the deck....downside is it is a bit more cumbersome to store but on my tri-toon that isn't much of an issue. I also keep my 2 go to cast nets in this bucket when not in use.
Edit - let me look at mine again when I get to the lake late this weekend...it may just be the large version.
