PrimeTime, Matthew and I headed out early Wednesday morning hoping to locate and learn to catch and use skipjack. We tried to get some below watts bar dam.
We casted for them a while then we threw the cast net for some shad but only came up with a gar.
We had a few shad so we put the boat on the trailer and went 45 min up the road to watts bar and put some bait in the water. It wasn't too long before Matt was hooked up with our first Tennessee striper. He landed a nice 36 inch fish.
Mid day we rode over to meet the guys at Big Fish Outfitters. The gave us some info on where to catch bigger shad so off we went to Melton Hill. After a couple oh hours we had found some bigger shad and went back down to Watts bar. Not long into our first pull Matt was on with another good fish then another rod goes down I grab that one then another Harley has that one. We landed all three. Matt's and harley's were both 35" or so and mine was a new pb at 39"
Thursday we fished most all day at WB. The morning was good as Matt and I doubled up again. Both good fish.
We ended up with 4 fish for the day the biggest was 38.5"
Friday was bait day. We fished for a couple of hours in the morning Matt put another fish in the boat
Saturday was tx day. We were on the water at 5:30. Lines in at 6:45 soon after we watched as the eventual winners caught monster after monster doubling and tripling up multiple times it was an awesome sight. We landed 3 good fish.
Just after lunch we had a board get slammed. Matt was on the rod as the fish headed for the rocks wrapped him up and broke off. We floated down stream to regroup when another angler yelled that he had our planer board. We went to retrieve it and to our surprise the fish was still attached. A truly beautiful striper at 40".
Thankfully we were able to revive her and put her back for next time. We ended up in 8th place for the event. Not the finish we had hoped for but nothin to be ashamed of either. Thanks mward for all you do to put these events together. We had a blast.
