Been fishing from hales ford bridge and up Roanoke river with no luck. Using plastic craws on points about 15 ft deep. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Also when should I start throwing top water baits?

I've been hearing some reports of topwater already working well, especially in the mornings. If you aren't having any luck at that depth, I would try moving shallower and key in on the breaks. Nothing wrong with a craw, but you can always switch it up to a c-rig or a medium running crankbait to see if they're wanting a different bait at the time. I would also start focusing on creeks as they start to move up and chase the schools of bait.

Thanks flinster55. Will have to YouTube a c-rig to see what it is as I am new to all this. Will also try some crainkbaits.

Sorry, c-rig is just short for carolina rig. You can use your craws or a worm, basically just means the weight is stationary up the line from the hook allowing your bait to stay off the bottom some.

We just started bass fishing on a little boat I bought my son to occupy time till striper season. We have been using c rigs with green pumpkin worms assorted sizes and white ice swim baits fishing around down trees with moderate success. We do watch to see if there is bait in the area. Probably more dumb luck on our part. I believe it is called Bass University I don't think it is much money but he has been watching those seminars on video and said they are helpful.

Caught a 1.5 lb. on a jig today on Roanoke river side. Thanks for the helpful replies. Would post pics but haven’t figured that out yet.

Great Jsell I hear they are starting to chase some shad around for fall so keep an eye out on those bait balls.

They're definitely biting. Topwater bite is hot in the mornings and evenings. Sometimes even during the afternoon on an overcast day. If you can find any cover like a submerged stump or grass, you should be in business.

I just got into town and was going to start fishing for largemouth tomorrow. Is the top water action still going well? I'm near the state park so any suggestions on places to get to on the boat or lures to try are really appreciated!

Topwater bite has started to cool off a bit. I caught one on topwater sat afternoon, but crankbaits are much more successful now for me. Most are still up pretty shallow though, usually less than 10ft of water
