This came from a recent copy of the Outdoor (DGIF) report:
Illegal Striped Bass... On Friday night, December 7, Officers Shannon Smith, Michael Morris, Nathan Bowling and Joe Williams were working a special striper enforcement assignment on Smith Mountain Lake. Officers Morris and Smith were on boat patrol at 2200 hours when they encountered a boat with three fishermen. After speaking with the individuals for a short time concerning their striper activity, officers located 7 stripers on board the fishing boat. Of these 7 stripers, 5 were in the slot limit and unlawful to possess. Charges were placed on the fishermen for over the limit, possessing fish in the slot limit and failing to display proper navigation lights.

It happens all the time. They just don't enforce it. Saturday, I was fishing with Bo n Ronnie. They stopped us, checked everything, and measured our legal keepers. They asked a few questions, one of which was have you seen many guys out night fishing, then went on their way. About 45min later, here they come again pulling up to my boat. We thought surely they remember they just stopped us. When they got alongside us, the guy says, do y'all want another Striper? We only had five in the box so we said ok. He gave us the fish, which was clearly in the slot, and handed us his card. He said if anybody else stops you, have them call me. They had just busted somebody and didn't want the fish to go to waste. Never had that happen.

It is sad that people do this. The slot is there for a reason. I agree think they need to crack down on this. Bent rod lucky you. sounds like a fish fry at your house ;D
