Have not used my boat since last fall because of health reasons. Last night I filled my Xtreme Tank and turned on the pump no bubbles and the water thru-put seamed weak. Today I swapped out the 500 gph with a like pump. I had flow but no bubbles. I checked all the connections and cleared out the Venturi and checked for any issues. Turned on the pump no bubbles. I swapped out the new pump with a new 1100 gph with the same results. If I disconnect the pump from the tank and have it about 3 inches from the surface of the tank I get bubbles not a lot but I get bubbles and great flow. Any ideas guys completely frustrated after 5 hours of working on the dang thing... Your assistance is appreciated...

Check your air hose - make sure it's not clogged or does not have a hole / crack in it underwater where it would pull water vs air

Guys thanks for the Ideas... if the pump was wired in reverse would it still pump water... Will look at the tubing to see if there is a crack or hole....

Yep - most of the pumps will pump when powered with reverse voltage, just not as strongly as they should - but sometimes it is hard to tell the difference. I've also seen cases when your bait tank battery is failing that it results in the pump not pumping as strong as thus not pulling air - but its hard to tell its not pulling well enough.
What venturi system is on your X-treme? Seems like they transitioned to Dannco's at one point (or I might be mis-remembering). If it is a Dannco, make sure you don't have a alewife scale stuck in the metal pipe that the air hose connects to.

Mike - they did switch to the inline Dannco's a while back....they still have very restrictive plumbing attached to it that could be done better. I am looking into converting mine to a bulkhead Dannco version if I ever get the free time to focus on it.
It's too bad either Super Bait Tanks or Mel's can't utilize the Xtreme production and distribution system :-(

OK it looks like a hole or split in the line I reversed the tubing and now I am pumping air..I think I am going back to the new 500 gph tomorrow. ..I baught the in line airator about a year ago and installed it myself..thanks for the help guys.

Cool - makes sense - the deeper the pump the harder it has to pull to get air which ended pulling water in.
Yeah, a 1100 pump in most tanks is way overkill - heck, 500 gph often is too.
Glad it was something simple!

I just had that same problem. Mine was just a clogged up air suction line though. Glad you got it figured out.

Well all of the suggestions were great but nothing seemed to correct the problem. I must have spent 20 hours on and off working on the problem... Laying in bed this morning I thought of something. If the battery for the pump was very weak it would still pump water but not fast enough to suck in the air. After 15 minutes this morning in the rain was able to identify a almost dead battery as the problem. I picked up another battery and we now have bubbles.
Thanks Again John Broderick..
