Would like to try for some slabs we are staying near Gills creek want to get my son on some faster fishing anyone have any pointers or what to look for or depth any particularly technics should we try Any info would be a big help Thanks

You can go to the back end of gills creek and start checking laydowns and brushpiles in at least 10' of water, working your way out. The crappies I caught this weekend were between 8' and 15' deep, in water from 10-25' deep. Most places I checked only gave up a couple fish, but two separate brushpiles gave up a bunch in a hurry. You just gotta keep looking. I also found a couple piles that were loaded with fish, and they just wouldn't bite anything.
Minnows will work, and jigs are working great.
Bluegills are very active right now, and there's good white perch activity too.

A jig with a minnow on it always seems to work better for me than a plain jig

I am headed to SML next weekend. Most likely staying around Gills Marina. Anyone know if the crappie are biting now?

They’re always biting. Finding them is the hard part right now.
If we get a few warm and sunny days in a row, then they’ll be much easier to locate. If it stays flippy floppy and cold, then it’ll be tough.
