We've decided that we will be kicking off the 2017/2018 Striper Mafia Tournament Series with a "road trip". We will be holding a tournament in the "Striper Holy Land" of East TN (Knoxville, TN area) on October 7, 2017. More details to be forthcoming in terms of specifics on which water, times, and entry fees, but this will be a "higher stakes" event with higher entry fees and larger payouts - though we still intend for it to be affordable to a team of anglers making the trip to east TN. The Knoxville area is only about 5 hours from Smith Mountain Lake and a very easy tow - so we hope that our SML teams will come out and represent and show the TN, GA, SC and other boys the quality of anglers that we have here in southwest Virginia. This will be a stand-alone, independent event from our SML events - we will still have the four SML events with best three of four scores going toward the Angler of the Year award on SML.  |

Just an update here for everyone....
We have confirmed that we're kicking off the 2017/18 Striper Mafia tourney season with an event on Watts Bar Lake in TN. This will be a "higher stakes" event with a $400 entry fee and an optional $100 Big Fish entry. Basically the same format as our past events at SML - Catch-Photo-Release with a 2-fish total length.
This event is separate from the rest of the SML events - only the SML events will count for the Team of the Year points totals. We will still be doing 4 events on SML (Nov, Dec, Mar & Apr), and the entry fees will hold the same as last year at SML ($100/team entry, $25/Big Fish).
I hope SML will make a good showing out in TN - I know of a number of you planning or thinking about going - feel free to use this thread to post up discussion on who's going, suggestions for lodging, any tips on the lake you want to share, etc.

Did not fish for stripers but thoroughly enjoyed my bass fishing trips to the Barr. For those who've never been there y'all will love this place.

Just Registered team Reely Knotty. Bushwhacker, myself and another friend are looking forward to the trip down. I'm ready to pull in some of those pigs down there! Hopefully SML makes a good showing.

This will be my fist Mafia tournament. Might as well start out big and on the road. I plan to fish as many as I can this season. Lets get this Watts Bar discussion started!!!!

Not knowing anything about the watts bar lake area. Where would be a good area to look for lodging. I have found a couple places but not sure where to target on the lake, That's close to the tournament headquarters and to fishing ground. Thanks for any advice. Where are others looking to stay?

The intel I have says in early Oct the fish will likely be on the upper end of the lake - I'd look at places east of the Kingston Power Plant or around Lenoir City

Wish I could make it --September and October are full time work months with NO travel allowed. Now November through February is a different story!!!! It would be nice to have a Smith mountain team take the title in foreign waters!!!! Good Luck all --

I am aware of at least one other team definitely going - and a couple others from the SML area strongly considering it - though not necessarily on this forum all that much... (or at all).
Would like to see SML Strong represent!
