I'm presently looking to upgrade my electronics and need some input. I know the HDS7 is good but would like to know how the Elite 7 or Elite 9 compares. I realize that the Elite series does not offer side scan but not sure how often I would use side scan. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I just put on the elite 7ti and it has down and side scan. It is touch screen and seems to work really well. I am new to this nice of a sonar so I am still learning it. Only thing I see it doesn't do is it's not able to network to another sonar. I only have one so it didn't matter to me.

If you are bait fishing, side scan and down scan are valuable tools for helping you identify bait and to see if anything is schooled up under docks. I can cruise through the backs of creeks at 5 mph and pretty much know if it's worth throwing on. You can find ale schools bunched up and hidden and even single gizzards hiding near docks once you get a feel for how it works.
I also appreciate side scan when I'm trolling. Many times it tells me when fish are in the area and which way to go or even when to turn around and slow down my presentation.
With all of the above, if catching fish were my only goal, I would probably be better off with no electronics. Frankly, I catch more bait just throwing, and catch more fish by just fishing, and not being distracted by my overpriced gadgets.
Best of luck!

But, I really do love my SS to see the bottom layout, especially in shallow waters.
