Launched at 9:30 a.m. and headed up Gills Creek with my son. While he was having a blast boating bream after bream on gulp minnows, I was searching 20' depths cranking, drop shotting, and throwing a 1/8 oz shakey head. I ended up with 2 on the shakey head and a white bass on a KVD 1.5 over 20' of water. On a side note, the majority of pleasure boaters on the lake are complete morons! I thought in order to legally drive a boat you must pass and possess a boater's safety course certificate? Obviously the majority out there do not! As I maintain a straight path on the right side of the channel, too many times I was cut off in front by pleasure boaters and jet skiers. No wonder there are so many accidents on the lake. One gentleman was towing his grandson on a tube, zigzagging through the channel paying no mind to oncoming boat traffic. Is this lake patrolled? Not a fan of weekend traffic.

Thank you for the report. Wasn't sure if anyone was fishing anymore. Sounds like you had a good time.
The other boaters will keep you on your toes. Defensive driving is all I do anymore.

im willing to bet most, and i mean a good majority, have not taken and passed an approved boaters safety course. and i'd also bet that its not really enforced much if at all. and again i'd bet that most people dont even know its a requirement. it really needs to be enforced aggressively to make the lake a safer place for all

A guy I work with went down to the lake this past weekend with his family. He rented a pontoon boat for the day and said he had never driven a boat before and had no idea about the boater safety requirement.

WOW ! That's scary. I thought the rental people had to check? To rent a boat all you have to do now is watch a short video. No boater safety card needed...cuz of course that would hurt tourism and business income and why worry about safety when money is at stake.

This report doesn't even include SML does it? The top 2 factors listed are: 1- Operator Inattention 2- Operator Inexperience
