Don't worry about getting optimal equipment and just go fishing. What you have will do and you will learn what you want to upgrade first..
Your trout rods will be fine and you can keep bait in your livewell, just not as many and not for long in hot weather. Freeze some milk jugs and keep one in the livewell to help. Salt will help too. The most important thing is to spend some time on the water!

Concur 100%. Many of us were catching fish with nothing more than flashers and hard water time. I will say , keep a log of what you tried that did and did not work, with all the other pertinents, methods used, time, date, weather etc. My first striper rods were the cheapest MH 15-25lb test rated I could find. Work fine.

The bait tank is indeed a problem. However give the size of your live well maybe you can make a filter. The water being pumped back in could go through a filter. The other concern here is making sure the water coming back into the tank oxygenates the water as well. Keeping shad alive this time of year is hard. But it gets a lot easier in the fall.

These guys have all given you good advice. As you get more experience, you'll see where to make improvements. It sounds like your on the right track as far as a graph goes. I think I would focus on the bait tank next. There are some home made bait tank filters on the internet that will help in your boat tank. Search this and other striper fishing sites for this info. If you don't already have one, you'll need a cast net and learn to throw it. Good luck.

At a bare minimum you need a venturi setup on that recirc pump - you can get a Dannco Venturi in-line kit and plumb it into the return.
You'll likely still have some issues without filtration - need to get the scales out of the water with alewifes else they choke on their own scales... and to help get the crap and such out..... not a lot of good filtration options for that type livewell - have to get a little creative. Creekbank used to sell a "BaitSpa" that was a filter / aerator and would fit in the bottom of a five gal bucket - or a livewell like that..... unfortunately they are our of business. There are a few folks that have a filteration system that is made from basically a 6" PVC pipe with the filter and pump inside - it's a decent option.

my advice is as your striper fishing adventure begins add to your boat in places as needed and as your experience grows you will see where you need to put your rod holders, bait tank, storage for all your goodies. Every boat is different and every person is different on how they set up there boat. Go out with a few vetrans and take a look at what they have done and learned and changed. Never let anyone tell you that it has to be this way. This way might fit the style of their boat but does not mean it will work well on yours.. Grow with your boat on your time and your experience level. You do not need 10 rod holders the first time you go out. A begginer striper fisherman could not even handle 4 boards on each side and down lines too.
As far as electronics buy a touch screen and never look back 12 inch baby!!!
GROW with your boat as you see the need of things and positions !!!! That comes from a place of failure and success!!!!
JUNKeeEE out!!!!

My side rails are just over 2" I am looking at adding rod holders. The flush mount that comes with the Scotty/quick draw are 2" wide do you think they will work?

Is that a rolled gunnel - i.e. can you get to the other side of it? If so then you should be OK depending on the radius of the bend - ideally you'd bolt them on the back side vs. just screw Scotty also makes a round base, but it has a bulkhead type fitting - but its a little more than 2" wide

yes it is a rolled gunnel. I can access the underside but it seems a little tight maybe 1 1/2" open under the rail. plus the nut to the rub rail stick out under there as well.

I agree with the notion of going with what you got and allowing your experience to dictate the luxuries you desire. Once you decide that you want something (also called "need" when speaking to your wife), don't think twice about getting the best if you can. And best doesn't always mean most expensive. For example, the best rods in my opinion are cheap ugly sticks. However, like LBJ, I couldn't live without a 12 inch screen or a SBTII. Yet the biggest striper caught on my boat was caught when I had an 8 inch screen and used my livewell for shad.

Thanks for all the replies. my Wife likes to fish so I need to go out and get my wife hooked up on a striper. Her Birthday is Saturday maybe I could get a someone to take us out. Once she catches one then the wants will become approved needs. lol
