Anyone building any striper rods? I have been looking around for rod blanks to put together a few rods.
I was wanting to try a couple different rod blanks for several different applications.
1. Free lines 2. Down rods 3. Planner boards
Also might try a Jigging rod and a spinning rod for casting.
Built a rod a long time ago from a complete kit but never piece by piece to pick exactly what I wanted.
Was also wondering if a 7' 6" rod would be a good choice for striper. I have several catfish rods that length and I like them pretty good. They cast far if needed and have a good backbone with a fast tip.
I know it cost more to build your own rods when you can pick up a white ugly stick for 40 bucks but this is more for the personal experience and satisfaction than the cost of the rod.

We used to have a few guys on here that built rods.... SuperStriper and MyToyz. Not sure if anyone else lurking around is doing so. I've thought about it from time to time, especially with Mud Hole puts on a class down the road in Greensboro in the winter....

I was just trying to remember from the one I did long ago. Plus you tube..lol They have several economy blanks and gator has A few that look right for specs. Should be in line with any off the shelf striper or catfish series rod.

I know this is an older post but as a new member combing through the site for info I came across this. I built my first rod this winter and was hooked immediately. I am primarily a bass (lm/sm) fisherman so I built accordingly. There is not much more rewarding and satisfying as to catch a fish on your hand built rod. If you are fairly hands on and can follow instructions it really is not too difficult. There are plenty of great forums full of info and people willing to answer any questions you might have. Add to that the fact that Mudhole, among others, offer full turn key kits and to me , its a no brainer! Give it a try, you won't regret it. Btw, I have built several to date and enjoy each build more and more.
Regards, Rick Elrod

They (mudhole) have removed all of the guess work from the process.
