Explain this cool water pump back? Is this something that pulls from below the dam and introduces that water back to the main lake? That may be a dumb question?? AEP uses SML and Leeville in tandem.... they drain water from SML to generate electricity when needed and then off-peak they will use extra power (I believe from the nuclear genertor on Anna) to then pump water back up from Leesville back into SML - and then do it all over again. SML will fluctuate around 1' from this cycle (of course in drought conditions SML drains down some more) You can watch the changes here - smithmountainlakelevel.com/ In the summer they will drain and re-pump daily - in the lower-demand seasons it is more a weekly thing.

Great Report Mike! Lot of useful info for anyone but especially those of us that don't get to come to lake very often. Thanks ! Does anyone know where the water from Leesville is discharged back into SML?

It's pumped back into the bowl above the damn behind the barrier - when pumping back you can see the current
