Fished Friday night and Saturday night for cat fish. Friday night we fished in shallow 8 foot water with a 16 foot drop off. Ended up catchin 3 channels in the 5-8 pound range and 1 flat head only about 7 pounds. Not the big girlswe were after bit still a blast. Bait used was live gizzards money maker to mongo size and cut bait. Now Saturday was diff story decided to change it up and fish abot deeper water with no takers. Not sure if deeper water was a good choice with just the wrong location or they may be staying shallow right now with water temp ranging from 67.3-71 degrees depending on were your at.

Great report I look forward to more reports, I would like to learn more on these fish. Do you use any bluegill or just shad? That rain was a little harsh Saturday night.

Blue gill work fine as well and great for the kids to catch during the day(gives them something to contribute). I usally cut the top fin off of them or use them for cut bait. I just like using live gizzards for the chase of flatheads. That dont mean that flatheads wont hit a perch but they definitely prefer a live shad. The rain was bad but i love fishing rain just because theres less traffic during warmer months.

I will try using all gizzards next time. Do you still hook them in the nose?

I will try using all gizzards next time. Do you still hook them in the nose? If your using 8 inch plus gizzards then yes hook them same way as pulling boards. And if your using peanuts then i personally hook them through the back, they dont live as long but it will work. And i always use circle hooks on my cut bait.
