Out of the few lakes I fish, smith mtn has to be the worst for me. Is there really any numbers of bass in the lake. Has anyone ever found a large school of the elusive green backs? A very frustrating lake. Don't want to know your spots but has anyone found fish on a consistent basis?

There are many bass in sml but it is just hard to find them i think fishing around deep banks and rocky banks are great the bait you use also matters this time of the year i use floresent orange trick worms

A buddy who fishes the bass tourneys pretty routinely, and does well, says the biggest error most people make when fishing SML is "beating the banks and docks". He find large schools of bass in and around the points, shoals and islands but off the ledges in the deeper water. That's exactly where most of the striper guys are catching them on shad as well.

The lake has a learning curve much like any. Ive never fished any place other than a pond that didnt take multiple trips to get honed in on an SML is no exception. That being said, I think too many folks try to "power" fish it and run n gun without really working over spots. This morning for example I followed right behind some fellas fishing docks and caught fish. They made a cast or 2 at each dock and I made 5 to 10, they caught 2 fish off 8 docks and I caught 6 losing 2 more. Slow down, be patient, and spend as much time as you can on the lake. Good luck and tight lines
