Here are a few changes to the Virginia fishing regulations for 2016. License Information and FeesCertain fishing, hunting, and trapping licenses or a hunter education certification may be carried electronically. TroutMiddle Fork of the Powell River flowing through Appalachia in Wise County has been added to Catchable Trout Stocking Program. Armistead Point Park Pond in Hampton and Upper Norton Reservoir in Norton have also been added to the Catchable Trout Stocking Program. State Record FishFish that can be legally captured by bow and arrow will now be included for state record recognition under a bow and arrow category.

The electronic license is a good one for them to formalize.... I think some officers have allowed this to be provided in the past. I wonder if they will give you 5 min to quickly order your licence on-line 1st....

Mike, I doubt that the wardens will let you order your license at the time your stopped. However, I do know that if you have a license, and don't have it on you at the time your checked, they will look it up on their computer to check. If they have your current license in their system (and they should), there is not going to be a problem with them. They are more concerned that your fishing legally, than having your license on you at the time. Of course they frown on that, but will give you some slack as long as your legal.

I always carry mine even though it's all computerized now it's just a good idea. Some places still offer waterproofed card sleeves if you get your hands on one grab it up. Their orange.

I have the Virginia "Lifetime" license. Same size as a credit card, and made out of plastic, so it's easy to carry, and no problems if it gets wet.
