What pound test line do most use with U-Rigs (4 arm / 9 jigs) and do you use a fluorocarbon leader?

30lb braid no leader ever. When you hook it into a tree, which will happen at sml, you need line that's not gonna snap.

I use 65# Power Pro attached to 100# snap swivel, never had an issue. Don't' use Flourocarbon your gonna loose $30-$40. Pulling all that metal/lead. The stripers don't care, they are in a frenzy when chasing it.

Also, buy or make a rig retriever. It has saved my U-rigs and A-rigs plenty of times.

That looks like a nice simple one. I have this one and it works well. Has its own rope on a winder so you dont have to use another rod. Has worked for me because the weight of the "fish" can really knock some things loose. www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-E-Z-Lure-Retriever/product/44428/?cmCat=Oh, and I put treble hooks on the ends of the little "arms". It has been known to pull up entire branches

I use one similar to the one mward has and I'd be willing to bet he hasn't used his much. Captains Quarters offers a good one too. They are a must if you are u-rig fishing and will pay for themselves pretty quick.

Gator is correct - last time I used it was last time I pulled out u-rigs - just before New Years last year when I could not get a bite on a jig and got tired of watching Todd catch fish around me on alewifes... Put a u-rig out, and had to get the retriever out less than 5 min later ;-/ It did pay for itself on that and another day about 2 years earlier
