Took a ride out on Saturday afternoon with the family and stopped in the back of a cove to net some bait.... What a difference this year is over last... Forgot how much these things poop out when you have a tank full - cleaned the filters several times on Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.... Figured I'd post this one for Travis ;D Could just stare at this for hours......

Bait got a lot harder in the last week. Hit the water about 4 on Thur and threw on the one bit of bank that still had sun shining on it - got a nice net fil of gizzards. Then it was over - they went deep. Went back out that night and hit every good light on the Roanoke side between 8:30 and 10 looking for ales - caught 12 or 18 dinky ones. Ales may be just after sunset now. Best to target gizzards mid day or afternoon when the sun is up. This cold snap may push them to school up and move deep. Can't help you with spots in Bulls Run - but maybe some of the general info will help. About time to put the bait nets away and break out the jigging flukes and spoons anyway

Just zig zagging with your trolling motor in the back of the creeks watching your sonar and for large flips. Have your net ready to throw. The bigger the better this time of the year...
Alewives wont hit the lights a whole lot this time of the year. But when i do find alewives its usually under the shallower lights... also throwing your net in the mongaloid schoola of peanuts, you will be surprised how many alewives are in with the peanuts. Of corse you uave to sort thru a million baits.. and its usually a 10 to 1 ratio. But can be caught in the daytime hours
