I have pretty good luck pulling this 5" swimbait & color on my u-rigs. Was wondering if you can and how you guys might rig this behind a planer board?

I've thought before about pulling artificials behind planers - I know some guys that do with plugs - you just have to pull them a fair bit faster than you would with bait.
If I were to try and pull those with planers, I'd probably rig with with an 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig-head for some stabilty. Maybe even in a "three-way" rig fashion with one bait trailing the other.

That was my idea exactly. My concern would be the sink rate if I were to slow down (hang ups). Plugs will normally suspend or rise when slowed or stopped.

Agree - don't know if they would run right without some type of jig - guess you have to have those jigs...

Best thing to do is break out the planer boards and swim baits and try different things. Figure out what works best. Doesn't hurt to get a few ideas either. Maybe a moneymaker and use the swim bait as a stinger. Think outside the box!!!

Knowing how sketchy my bait catching is. I was thinking about running a Mr Wags about 9"off the planer board on the bank side boards. I caught a lot of fish last late fall throwing those to banks and bringing em back real slow. Of course you loose the strike sensation of throwing artificial and the setting the hook sensation of live.

Another option for your two inside lines that run straight out of your boat is to get you a couple of sea striker inline planers.
The # 1 and # 2 sizes work well for me. Plus you can run an assortment of lures buck tail, spoons , plugs and swim baits on a jig heads. Your leader should be shorter than your rod. And if these planers get tripped without a hookup they can be reset while the line is still out.

Yea buck tails would be great also. Maybe throw out a fluke. Caught a lot on all of those last year as well. Take into consideration this is coming from someone who has never caught a fish off a planer board unless it was on the Shad Taxi. Maybe my boat will be here this weekend. Can't wait to drag anything. My shoulder finally has recovered from my net learning last weekend.

There are so many options that you can pull behind inline and side planers . You can even pull five arm A-rigs with flukes or spoons. These are the casting type. Lets not forget the good old lead core on side planers. The combo's are endless if you think about it. Even try the large inline mepps muskie spinners. You might even get lucky and pickup a muskie, never know.
