Bentrod,
The tournament is more for my son than anything. I will have 4 fishing from my boat. I do not plan to let everyone keep fish. I will turn in a few for the fish fry. I catch and release as much as possible so one day of keepers will not hurt either.
I will usually CPR and then go to the grocery store fo fillets.
If I were fishing to eat I think this hobby would be a very poor investment in food.

Oh I got no problem with you fishing it. I've fished some and they're fun! I just don't understand the Clubs philosophy and changes to them. Doesn't make sense to me.

Hey Leeb you may want to check the rules on that tournament. I was checking the regs out the other day and it looked like to me they have changed it to only a member and a guest can be on the boat. I know in past years you could have more than one guest but I do not think that is the case anymore.
From what I have read in this post I am not in the norm and should probably up the lb test line and leader I use. I have for years been using 20lb mono and 17lb flourocarbon leader on my bait rods. I run a lose drag as well.

I believe my problem was the drag setting. I am a member and my son is a member so we can both have a guest. When you pay to be a member your family are then members. Each member has to pay the entry fee and each guest must pay the entry fee. It cost a little more for the guest. If the wife wanted to go we could have six on the boat. That means I would then only be a captain because to many people means slower action for each person. 4 will be fine. I paid all fees so if anybody on my boat wins I am taking the winnings. Put $300 dollars of fuel in the boat the other day for a half tank. I should have waited to see if the guest would offer gas money. It's is all for fun and to be able to tell stories. You can sit around and watch tv and talk about everybody else or get out there and do something. I think I need to add a signature line "boredom finds boring people"

Hey Seajay, I started using Power Pro braid a few years ago and I'd highly recommend it. I use 50lb test main and 30lb test fluorocarbon leader. If you go that high get the actual leader material the saltwater folks use. It is much more abrasion proof and remains very soft. I put on a 30 lb test backing then about 125 yards of braid and that way each year I cut 3-4 feet off the end of the braid. Had the same line on for 3 years now on all my rods. Initial expense for the braid is a lot but it pays in the long run. Its a great deal of fun to break when a fish ties you up in the trees. ;D

Filling up that 100g tank and then burning it all in a day made it start to sting a bit. Good luck in the Tourney and hope every has fun and stays safe.
