Great stuff. I was hoping this thread would generate this kind of response. Compliments to Troller for getting it started ! Epic - question....what's connecting the lead core to the 15' leader? Albright knot? If it's a barrel swivel I can't figure how you get em to the boat?!

Good question lund1 - I take out about 4 inches of the lead core and carefully feed the 20# leader in its place, then simply tie a normal knot within the 4 inches capturing both the leader and the lead core minus the lead. It will feed through the eyelets very nicely and you can get your fish within scooping range.

I use my outboard to pull u-rigs. At idol I can troll at 2.7 mph. Every now and then I'll throttle up or kick it into neutral to get the shallower, deeper effect. Good luck.

I think I'll run a couple of leadcore rods my next trip out. It's been a while since my last leadcore fish. I remove 6 to 8 inches of the lead and tie a 3-way swivel with the outer jacket and 2' of flouro and 1/2 oz swim bait and 3' of flouro and a 3/4 oz swim bait on each remaining part of the swivel. Usually 4 or 5 colors.

Fishing is hard this time of year. By ten in the morning it no longer pays to be on the water because the fish will have gone deep to get into cooler water. The U rigs I have the most success with are white. So try using different U rigs. I like the ones with nine lures. Also what speed are you trolling at. Try 3 to 3.2 miles per hour. I have had two fish on in the last three weeks while pulling U rigs. I have also lost four U rigs. On the Roanoke side try going from the S bend to Betty's. Stay as close to the shore as possible and start trolling before the sun comes up. I'll bet you get one soon.

That's my route/techniques also.

So Gator...you don't run flouro to the 3 way swivel!? You tie direct to the stripped out lead core?
Is there a formula for sink rates? i hear you putting 5-6 colors out. I assume that's a measurement for distance. What's the typical drop rate at 3mph per color? Or say 10 feet of line out?
I am kinda excited about this cause it gives me a reason to get over to Bass Pro and buy some stuff!.....just what I need .....more tackle. I assume you leave lead core spoiled...so you have to have a couple dedicated lead core rigs....YES!!!!

That's right. I tie the jacket to the swivel.
@ 3mph I figure that each color is dropping about 5'. I like to troll the old BW channel, just away from the timber.
Only better thing than BassPro is chasing fish. Well almost??(-/
