Sweet!! Thanks for the info man. They increase the price from 30 to 40 and the rods didnt get any changes. Hopefully now they will actually feel like they are worth the extra $10. (Not that they aren't the best bang for your buck rod) BassPro and most other shops have been selling the rods at $39 for a while now - I think that has been the MSRP - somehow Gander kept selling them at $29 - maybe they get the rejects with the crappy line guides

the ugly stik striper series was desiged to be flimsy with the lighter action for down lining so the fish loads up on it before they fill it . I have both the striper series and the catfish series they are different blanks but they work well

Cool thanks for the heads up fujimo. May have to head to gander and get some. I hate that flimsy feel of the striper rods. Drives me nuts!! Its great when the fish hits it and runs, but reeling up anything over 7-8lbs. can be quite the chore........
And even walmart sells them for $40 now.........

pete I have caught 50 plus lbs blue cats on them now you talk about bending. I sold 4 of the striper series and 4 6600 c4 reels to John Webster because I like the catfish series better

I have some Abu-garcia 7000's that I use for the big cats. They work very nicely. Right now I have the stock rods that come with the Abu's in the combo. They have a stiff tip with no feel, but the backbone to life up a cow!! Until I have some dough for nicer cat rods Ill keep what I have.

UPDATE - I picked up a couple of the new rods the other weekend at Bass Pro. These new rods have a gimbal butt on them for whatever reason, and unfortunately that butt is just ever too big to slide down into a Cabelas / Scotty Quick Draw holder. I'll have do do some modification to the butt - had to do the same on the Ugly Stik Tiger Lite rods that had a round bulb butt (no jokes please ) Just a heads up - depending on what type of rod holders you have you might have to do a little modification to the rod or find another rod.....

Mward, did you get a chance to fix the new rods so they would fit in the Scotty rod holders?

Pic of the gimbal butt end. It's rubber so I'm probably just going to take a knife and trim the edges a bit

Mward...... It looks like the Scotty power lock rod holders will work. Just in case you didn't want to cut your new rods.

Yeah - those Power Lock holders are open on the back and much larger.....
I tried Sunday to heat the gimbal with a heat-gun hoping to loosen the gimbal and pull it off - then replace it with the simple plastic end-cap from the old rods..... could not get it to budge after a fair bit of heating - but also didn't want to melt the rubber/plastic either...... guess the next step is a little trimming where it flares....
I should have taken a a few other pics.... the reel sits in a bit different spot on the new rod - you have a bit less rod above the reel and more below than with the old ones. Tyler was suggesting just cutting the gimbal off with a bandsaw or chop-saw...... could always dip the raw end in plasti-dip.... not sure I'm ready to go there yet....

I ordered 2 of the new rods yesterday, I'm going to just cut the gimbal end off as I don't really need it.
