I'm getting a error message when I try to add a attachment (pic).
Unable to upload file CoolT.PNG.
Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded.

Yep.... unfortunately it seems Proboards has a maximum on the amount of attachment space that comes with the "free" forums that this forum has now reached. We will all need to use a image hosting service - like PhotoBucket to post images going forward unless someone wants to donate $$ to purchase additional storage space. It will add a step (uploading your picture to Photobucket - www.photobucket.com ), but it has the benefit that you don't have to go through the hassle of converting to a lower resolution/file-size - and you can post the picture elsewhere without having to re-upload it again.... Also has the benefit that your images are archived in one location that you control...... I've used Photobucket now for 5 or more years and quite happy with it.... there are photo editors and other tools that it provides as well.

Just for informational purposes how much money are we talking? I think enough people get value from this forum that putting a little something in the pot could be manageable.

Looks like the pricing model is $$/month - more $$ = more storage/more attachments per post/larger attachments.... The only issue is this is a monthly plan thing.... so any collective funding would have to be received to fund the on-going costs.... not quite sure how to easily make that work out.
Photobucket is an "easier" way to distribute this - folks have their own account with their own overall quotas and can manage things that way... just adds a step in the process to post pics, but simplifies some things too.....
But - here are the details.....
Today we have (or had) 200 MB total / 3 attachments post / 1MB max per attachment / some max bandwidth
$3/month - 500 MB / 5 / 2MB / 25GB bandwidth (BW) $6/month - 800 MB / 8 / 3MB / 50GB BW $9/month - 1200MB / 12 / 4MB / 60GB BW $12.60/month - 1600 MB / 16 / 5MB / 80GB BW $14.40/month - 2000 MB / 20 / 10MB / 100GB BW $30.40/month - 4000 MB / 30 / 20 MB / 200GB BW $73.50/month - 10000 MB / 40 / 40 MB / 500GB BW
We'd likely want to still limit a max file-size and # attachements/post if possible or else you would not really get that many more attachments if folks uploaded big files....

Ok then let me play devils advocate. All of us-not too computer savvy folks learn to add a step to help the lurkers catch more fish. What about a pay for members only section that included reports and how to threads?? 5.95 annually or some thing ridiculously inexpensive. If you don't agree- see first sentence. Thoughts??

I think we keep it all free...no need to pay for storage as well. It seems to me once there is any money involved, things just got more complicated than necessary. Secondly, I believe that any person capable of using this forum to catch fish would have used something to catch fish. That is, it takes time and effort beyond information to put em in the boat.

I tend to agree with Gator, some of the shooting forums I frequent use that sort of model and it works well. Of course I don't have to deal with the hassles that I am sure are associated with collection and management of who has paid and who has not. Another technique some forums use is to have sections that can only be accessed once you have reached a certain post count, that way folks are encouraged to participate. Either way I am happy to support this forum in any way I can.

I think lurkers are what they are. A minimal payment is not going to change that. They will pay and still not share. The forum is great right now. I add a thread occasionally to embarass those who do not post. It works somewhat. Compared to past versions of this site this one is a ten they were at best 3 or 4s. This forum is great because of the interest shown by Mward and Bentrod in keeping it good. It ain't broke so...

Back to the topic of pictures/attachments....
We've disabled the ability to submit new attachments, and deleted a few old ones from the For Sale thread - this has opened it back up so you can view the attachments that are already there.
We will refresh the Photobucket tutorial in this forum shortly so that it better matches their current interface.... if you've not used Photobucket, I think you will find that it is really no more hassle than doing direct file attachments here given you had to always resize them 1st.....

Photobucket is not difficult to use. You just need to register and spend a little time checking it out. Like Mike points out, I have an account there and when I post on other forums I just use photobucket for them as well. Good luck with it.
