Fished from 9:30 PM till 3:00 AM.
Water level was good, and dropped slightly while there. Some trash in water, but not real bad. Still had to move around cautiously, using spotlight.
Shad already up and shallow when we got there. Fished main channel points, banks and bluffs, and a few secondary points and banks. Shad still up when we left. Shad so thick in some places we were hanging them with our lures.
We caught 5 total and hung one but lost it. All 5 fish were 27 to 31 inches long. No scale on boat so couldn't get accurate weights, Stripers seem to be running on the short side but nice and fat. According to my age/weight chart, fish were between 9 and 11 pounds. They are eating good.
Talked to two other boats at ramp, one had caught 1 Striper, the other had caught 2.
Fish caught between 11:00 PM - 2:00 AM. 3 off main channel, 2 in creeks. All fish released.
All fish caught on topwater with Cotton Cordel Jointed Redfins, and Storm Thundersticks.
Leesville can be tough, so we considered catching 5 a good night.

Did you fish any around goat island? Yes, but didn't get anything from around the Island. For some reason the shad didn't show up around there. As usual, we didn't find any fish where there we no shad. Over the years, probably 90% of my fish caught, came from the spots where the shad were up and shallow (right on the banks). I'll will fish shad-less areas, and will catch a stray every now and then, but I won't stay on a shad -less spot long. Keep in mind, this is night fishing, with artificials. My buddy did a solo trip lat night ( 9:PM to 4:00 AM), same exact conditions as my original report, and didn't get a bite. That is typical Leesville fishing. Been there, done that more times than I can remember. Leesville can be very "stingy" alot of the time, but I still love fishing that lake! Yep, anytime you can get a couple or more at night, it's a pretty good trip.
