Anybody have any eyes/hands on experience with one of these units, read bentrod saying he approved.Been wanting sidescan for a long time and I thought they might come down in price, but?I'm a hard sell on the latest and greatest as I'm still running a x17 lowrance. After 1 day on the water with a friend with new hds 7 I was put off with the screen size when split.Had looked at these online then said its not lowrance.but after reading up they are getting great reviews. One thing I did notice,1 transducer 9 inches long suggest mounting like reg transducer, garmin price $249 if you tear it up. $100 rebate till may 10th so $1100 after rebate, not as painfull as hds 9.

Its a sweet unit for sure. I am getting one to replace/supplement and Elite 7. I like it because the Side Sonar, Down Scan, Sonar and mapping are all included without the need for other utilities to make these functions work. The 9" screen is a great size at this price too.
Lowrance disappointed me with the HDS series and the way that interfaces and networks. Its too complicated in my eyes.
I've not been a fan of new Humminbirds for a number of reasons.
Garmin has a great reputation for outdoor electronics. I think this will do well.

Garmin has some video and a few youtube vids.looks good to me but I have not seen one in person,1 year warranty.Just do not want to be disappointed as it will have to be a one time purchace. Most of my fishing budget gets used just getting to a decent striper lake often enough.

A friend of mine at Boone has the Lowrance Elite 7 and the Garmin 93SV side by side on his boat. He loves the Garmin and rarely turns on the Lowrance anymore. From the few times I have been out with him, I liked what I saw. I like Garmin products too. I am going to try the Garmin Virb as I have fallen out of love with my GoPros.

That's good to hear, what I'm after is the side scan,if it was not for that I would not want another graph. My last 3 units have been lowrance.

I have been researching this unit as well since I saw Bentrods remarks on a earlier post. I am still running a Lowrance LCX113 that when I purchased was the best unit you could buy at the time. Works great still but would really like the side scan feature. Never really wanted to spend the money until I absolutely had to and did not want to buy a small unit to compromise . I checked out the mapping on the 93SV and looks like you can even upgrade the lakevu to the Ultra for some really awesome mapping features like none I have seen before and Smith Mnt is one of the lakes on it with the great features. I told R22 yesterday that I was considering getting one to use and still keep my LCX 113 as well. There are a lot of really cool features that come standard with this unit. I would like to hear more thoughts on this unit from Bentrod as well as comparisons since he is a Lowrance guy like me.

I haven't spent enough time with it to guarantee awesome performance, but from what I've seen initially, the side scan and downscan is good stuff - I'm very impressed for the price. If I get anymore time with it before my buddy ships off to Ga for the rest of the year for training, I'll let you know.

Thanks Bentrod . With your experience and time spent on the water I truly value your opinion. I used to be able to fish all the time but being a father and life has slowed that down almost to a crawl. I will get it back one day though!

Happy, Visit thehulltruth.com website they have one thread where all these units are tested/reviewed. They have some comparison screen shots of the units. If I recall the Garmin ss/ds is identical frequency to the Lowrance and Hbird units. Price and support could be your decision factor. I am a Lowrance guy but everybody is using identical systems just different names it seems.

Those freqs are the sonar freqs Gator. The SS and DS uses 455. I don't think the Garmin has the 800 freq yet but I hardly use it myself.

Spent the biggest part of a rainy day reading up and looking at screen shots on this unit.its looking better all the time, most video focus is on viewing structure/brush I want to see that but what I really want to be able to see is fish and bait with the clearity of the screen shot others have posted on here.I was thinking hds 7 for side scan only, but I know if I have problems with my x17 that lowrance will not fix it(have a x85 that works perfect, but cant by a transducer) and ill be stuck with the small split screens.Hate to leave lowrance but seems to be a lot of unit for a reasonable price and I know whatever I get will only be supported for so long anyway.
