Junkee arrived this morning and after appeasing the fish gods by catching bait for others, we set sail for less muddy water. We didn't break any records but had a great day. Here is a nice 14 pound 31" fatty that we caught as the guys we gave bait to cruised past by chance. We then searched for warm water and interesting structures we scoped out on the map. In other words, we went fishing! No human info, no crowds, no preconceived notions...just a "what the heck" attitude and a craving for pulling bait in areas unknown to us. Junkee picked an interesting spot a few miles away and sure enough we got slammed soon after we arrived. Here is a picture of the "agony of defeat" in action. Junkee was showing me the ripped scales from the fish that just came unbuttoned after a long and hard battle! PAINFUL! But at least it wasn't a bad knot! This fish got stung in the side and won! We then finally found some 50 degree water! Woohoo!! And I guess this 36" 17 pounder decided he wanted to eat a Mongo!

MORE PICS:Swinging for the fence! 17 pound weigh in with the new "certified" scale! The best part of catching! Interesting sport.. this fishing thing. I beat the heck out of my body so that I can rip the jaws off a beautiful creature. And then my ravenous, slobber teethed thoughts quickly turn 180 as I feel a sense of joy and utmost respect for the creature I hunt as he swims away back into the depths! And I will do it all over again tomorrow with a sense of brotherhood and sympathy for poor MWard who I know is watching from some place he doesn't want to be!

Yam, you were fishing near "Blue Brothers point" one of my favorite spots. I think I have a picture of that same fish from last year. Mward while you're eating that raw fish keep in mind it might be gizzard meat.

Great for ya'll,nice fish.I know I have little clout/post on this forum, heck this the first time I have I've ever posted on any forum(and most likely would not be posting now but im unable to fish sml as much as I used to)but I have found fish all the way to the dam this time of the year, when most of the fish are up the lake, sometimes after a cold muddy influx of water hits uplake the creeks on the lower end are warmer.I've spent a lot of time fishing alone since the fish kill.old friends say its not worth it any more, but I love it,miss it anyway.Never been one to call everybody I know to find the latest hotspot, something satisfying in finding your own fish it gives confidence in what your doing and hey if you strike out you still learned something. Torture on yam, torture on!

Sweet!!!! nice report yam.... especially like the part about striking out on your own, away from the crowds, that's exactly what I do, that's why I'm rarely seen fishing. (other than by mward, and I think sometimes he just rides around to see if he can find someone to talk to.) lol but please yam, you are sore liping MY fish!!!! j/k oh, there is no doubt in my mind you are the adapt and overcome kinda guy..... if you had struck out all 3 days.....would you have broken down and tried cut baiting? ..... just curious

I found a massive school today deep! Either they were hitting big LIVE shad or they were not coming to my boat! And guess what?? We didn't catch one fish all day.

What depth are the stripers holding at that you are seeing? Also bait too, has it moved up shallow? Might make a quick trip this weekend. Thanks, Mike

I also saw many schools on channel points near mouths of creeks that seem to be waiting for down lines and candy bait. In terms of shad, I saw them in shallow water in the morning and evenings. Blips galore during those time as well.

Thank you sir! Sounds likes things are pretty ripe for the picking. I don't have much luck throwing a net in more than 20 FOW. Good to hear bait is finding warmer water. Glad you all had a great week, thanks for the reports!
