I have found that running 1080 30 fps video all the time takes less battery than having wifi on waiting for a command. You can get up to 2 hours straight video. My thought is, send it out on for an hour.. Then bring it in and delete the last video if nothing happened. Change the battery and repeat.

Yeah - I usually never use Wifi, other than to just frame the shot on the boat - then I turn off the Wifi and just turn on recording. We were trying to work through some kinks in terms of the mounting/positioning/towing/angles - and the live preview feed was useful at the time....
We'll get it sorted and there will be some epic footage to come....

Sounds freaking fun. I would love to be controlling the planer with a camera as someone else brings in a fish. Now I am thinking... Are you guys running bait behind your planer with a camera?
If so... Maybe you should just run the planer with no bait. Then you could put it anywhere in the spread without it tangling. Have it running right next to the bank board, then if you see action....adjust accordingly.
What fun!

Yep - the thought is to run a dedicated camera planer...... and drop it into the spread where needed. I don't think running it on the board with bait will result in very viewable footage as it would go all chaos when the bait hits - though that second when the board gets pulled down would be neat.....

Or - Charlie got me thinking when he mentioned a battery powered RC boat to drag a bait around - might get setup a mini camera boat

I like the idea of the clip releasing and the planer/camera gets closer to the fish. Clarity of water is a big issue. Whatever... Get some footage man! The sky's the limit here.

I think the wifi feature is a great idea but it does destroy the battery life. Do you guys use the battery bacpac? I have 2 of them and love them. I keep an extra charged battery and bacpac and I can leave my gopro on all day(without wifi on). I would like to see your planer board method mward. Also, I just ordered the TrollPro for my FL trip. I am sure the viz will be fine in the ocean unlike what I have experienced on SML.

Yep - I have battery backpacks on mine.
We are still working in the trolling board method but it will be a dedicated "camera board" to get up close to the action but not be in the fight.
