Field and Stream conducted line strength tests and found that the San Diego Jam knot was the strongest knot out there followed by the Palomar knot. The real bonus to this knot is that it is ideal for fluorocarbon because it distributes pressure across the line versus pinching one spot. Here is a link to some drawings: www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/fishing/bass/where-fish/2009/02/strongest-fishing-knotsAnd here is my video on how to tie this knot. You will note that my video was inspired by our very own SML legend...Travis!

Yam this is so funny. I literally JUST looked this up this morning. I have rebuilt all of my drags, and while setting my drag weight with my scale I decided to test the line strength to see actual breaking point. With the knot I have been tying for years, I only achieve 75% of the line test before the knot goes. This knot seems very useable.

Practice with a rope and the knot becomes easy to tie. It's a beautiful knot as well. So pretty if done properly.

I think the Palomer is a close second according to them. So easy to tie and I tie it all the time on my stinger rigs.

I will have to get our mutual buddy to hook us up one of these days. I think you are just about as compulsive about all of your gear as I am!!!

I think the Palomer is a close second according to them. So easy to tie and I tie it all the time on my stinger rigs. The problem with the Palomar is that you have to tie it perfectly or you run the risk of breaking your fluorocarbon. And perfectly is actually rather hard. The two lines have to be perfectly parallel and the loop has to come around the existing knot and cinch behind it. Do some research on this. I lost a few to a crappy tied Palomar. I thought it was the knot but it was actually me. This knot is a winner and you know when it is right because it looks good.

That's a good find. ... I usually use a palomar because it's fast and strong but when tying to something that would be a pain to pass through the knot I fall back to the improved clinch knot that I learned when I was probably 6 years old If you want to inflame your OCD try to tie a perfect slim beauty... on the boat in 25mph wind while you are getting tossed around by 3 foot waves

Interesting knot, looks easy enough to tie will have to get some line and sit here at night until I can tie it without thinking, I can do that with the old improved clinch knot and a couple of others. Thanks for the information.

Both are difficult to tie sitting at the dock for me. StripedYam, I did notice in your video that one of your wrenches was out of order.

You were able to see that my 8 and 9 mm wrenches were mixed up? You got you some good eyes there gator!
