I just heard from a friend of mine that Shakespeare is discontinuing the white blank striper rods and going with a black blank. Other than color the biggest difference will be the guides. Not sure if its true or not but maybe there were enough complaints about the eyes breaking and this warranted change. ??

I grabbed my two broken rods and headed for Gander Mountain this evening just to see what they might say. The customer service rep made no argument, didn't even ask a question. He simply said, "we'll take care of that. Would you like cash or store credit?" Cash please. This may have simply been a marketing ploy as I ended up buying five more of the same rods. The same guy checked me out and said, "If it happens again, just let me know and we'll take care of it. Kudos to Gander Mountain and this man's customer service.

I have a few of the Ugly's myself but have gone a different route. Bass Pro Shops graphite series, has a 7'6" telescoping handle model in MH and H action. They are 39.99 ea. I use the H action for planer boards and trolling jig setups. The MH action I use for downlines, light lines, and planer boarding shad. Both of these rods have landed medium size blue cats (up to 40 lbs.) and stripers (saltwater) to @ 45 lbs. The telescoping feature is nice when storing the rods both transporting in the boat and at home, as they break down to @ 6'.
